Cyber Physical Systems, i.e., computer controlled physical, have evolved from a simple embedding of computers into systems such as automobile engines, to networks of computers collecting data from, making inferences about, and controlling large systems such as power grids. In recent times, with the advent of low power electronics, advances in wireless technologies, and low cost integrated mixed signal devices, smart wireless sensors and actuators are being embdded into homes, farms, factories, and even city infrastructure, giving rise to the so-called internet of things. In this talk we will provide an understanding of the scope of this emerging technology area, and will provide glimpses of some of the research problems from a communications and computer science perspective. I will also provide a sense of where the field is going internationally and nationally.en_US
