Abstract
This thesis aims to understand the reasons and implications behind the skewed gender ratio in the
Construction Industry. To achieve this goal, a combination of structured and unstructured
interviews and on-site observation methods were utilized. The research included three distinct
groups of individuals who are directly or indirectly associated with the construction industry.
The first group consisted of laborers from the Zirakpur labor chowk, with whom I conducted a
total of 27 interviews - 18 structured and 9 unstructured. The second group was comprised of
skilled individuals working at my institute's hostel construction site, all of whom were men, and
with whom I conducted eight structured interviews. The third group consisted of B.tech students
in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering from IIT Ropar, with whom seven structured
interviews were conducted via the Zoom platform. The respondents included three female and four
male students.
Apart from the introduction and literature review, the thesis comprises four chapters, with the first
three chapters presenting the findings from each of the three groups, while the fourth chapter
discusses the conclusions drawn from the research.
