Tropylium Tetrafluoroborate Catalyzed 1,6-Conjugate Addition of 2-Naphthol to p-Quinone Methides

Abstract

Tropylium tetrafluoroborate has been utilized as a Lewis acid promoter for the 1,6-conjugate addition of 2-Naphthol to para-quinone methides. This work demonstrates a transformation which occurs at mild conditions and is tolerable to many different functional groups. This protocol provides an easy and straightforward access to a set of unsymmetrical diarylnaphthol methanes in good to excellent yield.
