Given a group G and a commutative ring k with identity, one can define an k-algebra k[G] called the group algebra of G over k. An element α k[G] is said to be algebraic if f(α) = 0 for some non-zero polynomial f(X) k[X]. We will discuss some of the developments in the study of algebraic elements in group algebras.en_US
